Transylvania 6-5000

Two American reporters working for a sensationalist newspaper are sent to Transylvania to look into reports that Frankenstein's monster is still alive. Jack Harrison is serious and down to earth, while his colleague Gil Turner is excitable and hungry for a big story. Once they arrive in the small town, they find a doctor named Malavaqua and a string of odd residents, including a hotelier, a servant couple, a sensitive wolfman and a vampiress named Odette, rather than the creature they came for. Their investigation also touches on the disappearance of a young local girl.

Transylvania 6-5000 was released in 1985 and runs 93 minutes. Rudy De Luca directed and wrote the screenplay, with Thomas H. Brodek and Mace Neufeld producing. It was made in the United States and Yugoslavia, with Jadran Film among the production companies, on a budget of about 3 million dollars, and it took roughly 7 million dollars worldwide. The cast is led by Jeff Goldblum as Jack, Ed Begley Jr. as Gil, Joseph Bologna as Dr. Malavaqua, Carol Kane as Lupi and Jeffrey Jones as Lepescu, across 25 credited roles.

The film mixes comedy with fantasy and horror, and the ratings reflect a mixed response: on IMDb it holds 5 out of 10 from around 9,200 votes, and on TMDB 5.3 out of 10 from about 169 votes. A critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10 from 10 reviews sits below both audience scores.
