Hot Young Bloods is a South Korean romantic comedy set in 1980s Hongseong, a rural town in Chungcheong Namdo, and centers on the last generation of students at a local high school. Young-sook rules the school's girl gang and has a reputation for toughness, but she secretly carries feelings for Joong-gil, the town's well-known womanizer. Joong-gil flirts with nearly every girl at school except Young-sook, and when So-hee transfers in from Seoul, he falls for her immediately, prompting Young-sook to act.
The film was directed and written by Lee Yeon-woo, who had previously made the romantic drama Lovers Vanished (2009) and the comedy The Grand Heist (2012). Lee Jong-suk and Park Bo-young lead the cast, joined by Lee Se-young, Kim Young-kwang, Kwon Hae-hyo and Kim Hee-won, with 22 credited cast members in all. It was released in January 2014 and took about 11 million USD worldwide, a modest return for a Korean teen period comedy. On TMDB it holds a 7.1/10 rating from 117 votes, which is a small sample but a favorable one.
