Shockproof

Jenny Marsh has spent five years in prison for killing a man, and on her release she is placed under the supervision of parole officer Griff Marat. He takes a personal interest in her rehabilitation, arranging a job for her as a companion to his mother. Jenny remains tied to Harry Wesson, the gambler whose world led her into trouble in the first place, while her feelings for Griff grow into something neither of them planned. Their involvement puts Griff's position at risk and sets the pair on a collision course with the law.

Douglas Sirk directed the film, which followed his earlier features A Scandal in Paris and Lured and came well before the run of melodramas that defined his later career. Samuel Fuller and Helen Deutsch wrote the screenplay, and Cornel Wilde and Patricia Knight, then married to each other, play Griff and Jenny, with John Baragrey as Harry. Helen Deutsch and S. Sylvan Simon produced for Columbia Pictures.

Released in January 1949 and running just under eighty minutes, the film drew modest attention. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from around 2,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from a much smaller group of 45 voters.
