Professor Bernard Quatermass, who has been drawing up plans for a first colony on the Moon, learns that a facility built to the same design has appeared in a remote part of England under government cover. Small hollow objects fall from space around the site, and when Quatermass goes there with his colleague Marsh, Marsh is injured by one of them and armed security men take him away without explanation. Quatermass, aided by Chief Inspector Lomax, investigates what the complex is really for and finds that an alien presence is already at work.
Val Guest directed the film, his second Quatermass story after The Quatermass Xperiment in 1955, from a screenplay he wrote with Nigel Kneale. Brian Donlevy returns as Quatermass, with John Longden, William Franklyn, Bryan Forbes and Tom Chatto among the credited cast of 23. Hammer Film Productions made it, and Anthony Hinds produced.
The film runs 85 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from around 5,400 votes, and on TMDB 6.4/10 from roughly 150 votes, while a critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 12 reviews sits above both audience scores.
