Club Paradise

Club Paradise follows Jack Moniker, a Chicago firefighter who retires after an injury on the job and relocates to a small Caribbean island. There he meets Ernest Reed, the owner of a rundown resort, and the two set about fixing the place up and drawing visitors under the name Club Paradise. Their plans run into opposition from local officials and outside businessmen who want the island and its land for themselves.

Harold Ramis directed and co-wrote the film with Brian Doyle-Murray, and Michael Shamberg produced it. It was Ramis's third feature as director, arriving between National Lampoon's Vacation and Groundhog Day. Robin Williams plays Jack, with Peter O'Toole as Anthony Cloyden Hayes, Rick Moranis as Barry Nye, Jimmy Cliff as Ernest Reed, Twiggy as Phillipa Lloyd and Adolph Caesar as Solomon Grundy, among a credited cast of 58.

Released on July 11, 1986, the comedy runs 96 minutes. Made for about 15 million US dollars, it took in roughly 12 million worldwide, so it did not recover its budget at the box office. On IMDb it holds 5.1 out of 10 from 6,735 votes, and on TMDB 5.2 out of 10 from 107 votes. A critics' rating of 4.3 out of 10 from 28 reviews places it below the audience scores.
