Roadracers

Roadracers is set in the 1950s and follows Dude Delaney, a guitar-playing drifter who arrives in a small town hoping to play music and stir up trouble. He falls for Donna, the local beauty, and is offered a spot in a rockabilly band. His presence quickly puts him at odds with Teddy, the sheriff's son, and the two become rivals. Teddy and his friends go out of their way to provoke Dude, while the sheriff, known as Sarge, wants him gone. Tensions build through fights and confrontations around town, and Dude's friend Nixer, a movie-obsessed companion, is drawn into the conflict.

The film was directed by Robert Rodriguez, the second of the twenty-four features he has directed, arriving between El Mariachi in 1993 and Desperado in 1995. It was written by Tommy Nix and Rodriguez and produced by Debra Hill, Willie Kutner and Lou Arkoff. David Arquette plays Dude, with Salma Hayek Pinault as Donna, John Hawkes as Nixer, Jason Wiles as Teddy, O'Neal Compton as J.T. and Kevin McCarthy as Miles. Made for television on a budget of one million dollars, it runs ninety-five minutes and mixes action, crime, drama, fantasy and romance. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from ninety votes, reflecting a modest reception.
