Short description
Stanley Ford is a successful cartoonist and happily single. That is, until he gets drunk at a friend's bachelor party and impulsively proposes to the beautiful woman who pops out of the cake. Once sober, he regrets the decision, but she won't agree to a divorce. Stanley jokingly vents his frustrations in his comic strip by having the main character kill his wife. But when his actual wife goes missing and Stanley is arrested for her murder, he has a change of heart.
What's left behind the scenes
- Before work on the film began, Virna Lisi's (1936-2014) husband made her promise that she would not appear nude in her first American film. She gave her promise and left for Hollywood. During the scene where Jack Lemmon's (1925-2001) character wakes up to find he was married at a bachelor party, she had to undress and get into bed, though she was covered by a sheet. It was at that exact moment that Lisi's husband, who had flown to the US without warning, appeared on set. Lemmon had to flee for his life, hiding from the infuriated husband in a trash can.
