Nocturna

Nocturna is an animated fantasy set in an orphanage where Tim, a boy who dreads the dark, takes comfort in watching the stars. When his favourite star disappears from the sky, he ventures onto the roof and discovers that other stars are vanishing too. There he meets the Cat Shepherd, whose job is to watch over children's sleep, and persuades him to lead the way to Moka, the figure who governs everything that happens at night. Their journey carries Tim through the nocturnal world of Nocturna, home to creatures with troubles and secrets of their own.

The film was directed by Adrià García and Víctor Maldonado, who also wrote the screenplay with Teresa Vilardell. It is García's first feature, followed in 2025 by The Treasure of Barracuda. The Spanish and French co-production was handled by Castelao Productions, Filmax and Gébéka Films. Its voice cast includes Imanol Arias as the Cat Shepherd, Carlos Sobera as Mr Moka and Natalia Rodríguez as Estrella Polar, with Hélène Bizot voicing Tim and Philippe Peythieu and Joshua Zamrycki in supporting roles.

Running 83 minutes, Nocturna mixes family animation with fantasy and mystery. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from 95 votes, indicating a modest but appreciative audience for this night-time adventure.
