Love Happy

Love Happy follows a struggling Broadway company trying to stage a show while a valuable necklace, once owned by Russian royalty, ends up hidden in an ordinary tin of sardines. The tin passes through several hands, drawing in a private detective, a scheming Madame Egelichi and her associates, and a hungry drifter who happens to be carrying it. The Marx Brothers become caught between the young performers' hopes and the criminals chasing the jewels.

The film was directed by David Miller, who went on to make Sudden Fear, Midnight Lace, Back Street, Lonely Are the Brave and Captain Newman, M.D. Groucho Marx plays detective Sam Grunion, with Chico Marx as Faustino and Harpo Marx as Harpo. Ilona Massey appears as Madame Egelichi, alongside Vera-Ellen and Marion Hutton as the hopefuls Maggie Phillips and Bunny Dolan. David Miller's first feature as director, it was written by Mac Benoff and Frank Tashlin and produced by Lester Cowan for United Artists.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 3,300 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 5.8 from a much smaller group of 62 votes. The two audiences agree closely on the film, placing it among the milder entries in the brothers' screen career. It runs 85 minutes and mixes comedy with musical numbers.
