Desert Fury

Fritzi Haller runs a gambling house in the Nevada desert town of Chuckawalla, and she keeps a tight grip on both her business and her teenage daughter, Paula. When Paula drops out of school and comes home, she falls for Eddie Bendix, a gambler and racketeer with a questionable past who once was involved with Fritzi herself. Fritzi and her deputy, Tom Hanson, who is in love with Paula, try to keep the two apart, and Eddie's friend Johnny Ryan is unhappy about the relationship as well. Paula stays with Eddie anyway, and the situation moves toward a crisis.

Lewis Allen directed this 1947 crime drama, the second of the six features listed for him, following The Uninvited and preceding Chicago Deadline. Robert Rossen wrote the screenplay, and Hal B. Wallis produced it through Hal Wallis Productions. John Hodiak plays Eddie, Lizabeth Scott plays Paula, Burt Lancaster plays Tom, Wendell Corey plays Johnny, Mary Astor plays Fritzi and Kristine Miller plays Claire Lindquist.

The film runs 96 minutes. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from around 2,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 from 33 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 10 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a modest reception across the board rather than a sharply divided one.
