What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Will Ferrell was supposed to play the father, and the role of the stepfather was intended for Ed Helms.
- The role played by Mark Wahlberg was originally intended for Vince Vaughn.

- Filming took place at the prestigious Edward Hynes School in New Orleans, Louisiana. The school caters to students from preschool through eighth grade, and many students were used as extras.

When the start of the game is shown, Ed Davis (Lakers, who played for the team for only one season, 2014-2015) and the leader of the New Orleans Pelicans, Anthony Davis, compete for the opening tip-off. The Lakers have never played in the playoffs against a New Orleans Pelicans team featuring Anthony Davis. And the last time the Lakers played in the playoffs was in 2013, but Kobe Bryant missed those playoffs due to an injury (Achilles tendon rupture).
- For the scene in the garage, Mark Wahlberg had to do approximately 700 one-handed pull-ups, with assistance, of course. The scene was shot from various angles.
