Initially, Will Ferrell was supposed to play the father, and the role of the stepfather was intended for Ed Helms.

And the last time the Lakers played in the playoffs was in 2013, but Kobe Bryant missed those playoffs due to an injury (Achilles tendon rupture).
For the scene in the garage, Mark Wahlberg had to do approximately 700 one-handed pull-ups, with assistance, of course. The scene was shot from various angles.
