The Wild Daisy is a Japanese drama focusing on the romantic relationship between two teenage cousins, Masao and Tamiko. When Tamiko arrives at Masao's riverside brewery home to assist with the care of his ailing mother, the two develop feelings for each other. Their desire to marry faces strong opposition from their family, primarily because Tamiko is older than Masao.
The film was directed by Katsumi Nishikawa, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Fukiko Miyauchi. Within Nishikawa's career, this production is the 31st of 33 films, following The Surf from 1975 and preceding Sweet Revenge from 1977. The cast features Momoe Yamaguchi as Tamiko and Osamu Sakuta as Masao, with supporting roles played by Tanie Kitabayashi, Miwa Saitō, Shirō Ōsaka, and Yôko Minamida. Produced by TV Asahi and Hori Kikaku, the movie has a runtime of 75 minutes.
