Flamingo Road

A carnival dancer named Lane Bellamy finds herself stranded in a small Southern town run by Sheriff Titus Semple, a corrupt political boss who controls nearly everything and everyone around him. When she becomes involved with Fielding Carlisle, the sheriff's weak-willed deputy, Semple decides she is a threat to his plans for the young man's career and has her driven out of town through a fabricated morals charge. Lane refuses to stay away. After her release, she takes a job at a roadside diner, where she meets Dan Reynolds, a politician she eventually marries. The couple settles on Flamingo Road, the town's wealthy and respected address, but the sheriff's reach follows them there.

Michael Curtiz directed the film, the eighteenth of the twenty-five features credited to him in chronological order, coming after Mildred Pierce and before The Breaking Point. Robert Wilder wrote the screenplay, Jerry Wald produced, and the picture was made by Warner Bros. Pictures with Michael Curtiz Productions on a budget of two million dollars. Joan Crawford leads the cast as Lane, with Zachary Scott, Sydney Greenstreet, David Brian, Gladys George and Virginia Huston among the twenty credited performers.
