Young and Innocent
Short description
Young and Innocent is a British mystery thriller about a man accused of a murder he did not commit. Robert Tisdall finds the body of a young woman on a beach and is quickly treated as the killer, since the belt used to strangle her appears to have come from his raincoat, which he says was stolen. Arrested and facing trial, he escapes and goes on the run, with the constable's daughter, Erica Burgoyne, choosing to believe him rather than accept her father's certainty of his guilt. Together they search for the person who took the coat, hoping to identify the real culprit before the police catch up with Robert.
Alfred Hitchcock directed the film, the tenth of the forty-three features listed for him in chronological order, following Secret Agent and preceding The Lady Vanishes. Anthony Armstrong, Charles Bennett and Edwin Greenwood wrote the screenplay, and Edward Black produced it for Gaumont-British Picture Corporation. Derrick De Marney plays Robert, with Nova Pilbeam as Erica, Percy Marmont as Col. Burgoyne, and Edward Rigby and Mary Clare among the credited cast of twenty-one.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.8 from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from 261 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 from 20 reviews places it somewhat above those audience scores.
