Short description

Bertrand Barnier is a wealthy French businessman whose orderly household is thrown into disarray one morning when his accountant, Christian Martin, arrives with a series of demands. Christian wants a large raise, and he also wants to marry Barnier's daughter Colette. When Barnier refuses, Christian reveals that he has been embezzling from the company for years and threatens to expose his employer's financial misdeeds unless his wishes are granted. Over the course of the day, further complications pile up: the maid Bernadette announces she is leaving to marry a baron, a former chauffeur named Oscar turns out to have been involved with Colette, and the question of just who is related to whom becomes increasingly tangled.

Oscar was directed by Édouard Molinaro, the fifth of the six features listed among his credits, arriving between The Seven Deadly Sins and Hibernatus. The screenplay is by Claude Magnier, adapting his own stage comedy. Louis de Funès leads the cast as Bertrand Barnier, with Claude Rich as Christian, Agathe Natanson as Colette, Claude Gensac as Germaine Barnier, Sylvia Saurel as Jacqueline Bouillotte and Dominique Page as Bernadette. The film runs 85 minutes.

It was released in France in October 1967. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 from around 8,400 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 7.3 from roughly 550 votes, indicating a widely seen comedy that retains a favourable reputation with audiences decades after its release.
