A grieving social worker is assigned to investigate the Wadsworth household, which consists of a mother and her two adult daughters. The family cares for a son who, despite being in his twenties, possesses the mental capacity and behaviors of an infant. As the social worker attempts to help the man improve his condition and suggests professional clinical care, she faces strong resistance from the family.
Directed by Ted Post, the film was released in 1973. It follows his work on Hang 'em High, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, and Magnum Force. The screenplay was written by Abe Polsky, who also served as a producer alongside Milton Polsky. The cast features Anjanette Comer in the lead role as Ann Gentry, supported by Ruth Roman, Marianna Hill, and Susanne Zenor as the Wadsworth family members, with appearances by Michael Pataki and Tod Andrews.
The movie has received a moderate reception from viewers, holding a 6.1 rating on IMDb based on 5,100 votes and a 5.9 rating on TMDB from 95 votes. Film critics gave the production a higher score of 7.2 based on 16 reviews.
