A young woman vanishes from her wedding and materialises inside the TARDIS, leaving the Doctor with no idea how she got there. Donna Noble, about to marry Lance Bennett, wants only to get back to the ceremony, but her sudden appearance turns out to be tied to a scheme by the Empress of the Racnoss to destroy the Earth. As the Doctor investigates why Donna was taken, he has to work out what her connection to the Empress means and stop the plan before it reaches its end.
Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride is a 2006 British science fiction television special, running about an hour, made by BBC Wales and first broadcast on Christmas Day. It was directed by Euros Lyn and written by Russell T Davies, with Phil Collinson producing. David Tennant plays the Doctor and Catherine Tate plays Donna Noble; Sarah Parish appears as the Empress, with Don Gilet as Lance and Howard Attfield and Jacqueline King as Donna's parents. The special introduces Donna, who would go on to become a recurring companion in the series.
For Lyn, the film is the earliest of the three titles in his directing credits, preceding Dream Horse and The Radleys. On TMDB it holds a 7.8 rating from 254 votes, which suggests a generally favourable response from viewers. Tennant's lead performance and Tate's introduction are the elements most associated with the special.
