Death Spa

Death Spa is a 1988 American horror film about a fashionable health club where the equipment and facilities turn deadly. Michael Evans runs the club, and a string of gruesome deaths there — a killer sauna among the hazards — threatens both his members and his business. His wife Catherine killed herself some time earlier, and her brother blames him for her death, a grievance that runs through the story as the violence escalates. Michael sets out to stop the killings before the club loses everyone who still comes through its doors.

The film was directed by Michael Fischa, whose only other directing credit listed is My Mom's a Werewolf the following year, so it sits at the start of his filmography. James Bartruff and Mitch Paradise wrote the screenplay, Jamie Beardsley produced, and the cast is led by William Bumiller, Brenda Bakke, Shari Shattuck, Ken Foree, Merritt Butrick and Robert Lipton, with 25 credited performers in all.
