In his youth, Dustin Hoffman seriously pursued music (piano), but, like his character in this film, someone decided that he ultimately lacked the talent to become a musician.
Shortly before filming began in Texas, Garrett Wareing broke his left arm in three places. He filmed with a splint on his arm, and a cast was only applied after filming was completed.
CBS planned to release the film in the spring of 2016, but at the last moment the premiere was cancelled due to a scandal raised by former members of a boys' choir who had been subjected to sexual abuse at a private school similar to the one depicted in the film.
