What's left behind the scenes
- When the chubby boy told Kevin Costner’s hero, “Hit it, Crash,” the actor spontaneously retorted, “Shut up.” The boy didn’t expect such a response and burst into tears.
- The on-location shooting took place in North Carolina in October and November 1987, so the grass had to be tinted green.
- Director Ron Shelton chose Kevin Costner for the role of Crash Davis because he himself played baseball in high school and had remained in excellent physical shape since then.
- The film crew went to the nearby town of Chapel Hill, where a Pink Floyd concert was taking place, and asked the audience to act as extras. This is why many of the extras are sporting 'Dark Side of the Moon' t-shirts (the band’s 1973 album) – they came to the set immediately after the concert.
- Michelle Pfeiffer auditioned for the role that was eventually played by Susan Sarandon, but she was considered too young.
