Twins of Evil is set in a small European village where Gustav Weil leads a puritan brotherhood determined to root out witchcraft and devilry. When orphaned twin sisters Maria and Frieda come to live with their uncle Gustav and his wife Katy, they are drawn into a conflict between his fanaticism and the satanic influence of Count Karnstein, who has been initiated into vampirism by the resurrected Mircalla Karnstein. As deaths multiply, Gustav's crusade falls on the wrong target, while one sister embraces the corruption and the other is left to face the consequences.
John Hough directed the film, the second of the ten features listed in his filmography, following Eyewitness and preceding Treasure Island. Tudor Gates wrote the screenplay, and Harry Fine and Michael Style produced for Hammer Film Productions and The Rank Organisation. Peter Cushing plays Gustav Weil, with Dennis Price as Dietrich; Madeleine and Mary Collinson appear as Frieda and Maria, alongside Isobel Black and Kathleen Byron. The credited cast numbers twenty-three.
The film runs 87 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from around 7,500 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 from 164 votes, indicating a modest but steady reputation among viewers. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 19 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores, a common pattern for Hammer horror of this period.
