During World War II, British intelligence recruits five imprisoned criminals for a mission so dangerous that it amounts to a death sentence. Each man is a specialist in his own field of crime, and each is offered freedom in exchange for taking part. Commanded by Major Richard Mace of British Intelligence, the group is sent into Yugoslavia, where the Germans are holding an Italian general in Dubrovnik. Freeing him could shift the course of the war, and the men must carry out the operation behind enemy lines with their liberty as the only reward.
