What's left behind the scenes
- The runic inscription that briefly appears in the trailer means "I see."
- The first trailer for the film features the song "Castle" by Halsey.
- Chris Hemsworth, the lead actor, gained fame for his role as the Norse god Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The character played by Emily Blunt is named Freya (another name from the Scandinavian pantheon).
- The shortlist of directors for the film, compiled by Universal Pictures, included Frank Darabont, Gavin O'Connor, and Andrés Muschietti. A contract was signed with Darabont, however, the film was ultimately directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, with Darabont simply contributing to the screenplay. Nicolas-Troyan worked on the special effects and was the second unit director on the set of "Snow White and the Huntsman" (2012).
