The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

At Medfield College, students want a computer but the school cannot afford one, so they persuade the wealthy local businessman A.J. Arno to donate a machine. When student Dexter Riley tinkers with it during a storm, an electrical accident leaves his mind working like a computer: he absorbs and recalls whatever he reads, and the information stored in Arno's machine stays with him as well. That turns him into a campus celebrity whose new abilities give the college a shot at a televised quiz competition and its prize money, even as Arno's own illegal dealings sit in Dexter's head.

The film is a Walt Disney Productions comedy directed by Robert Butler, written by Joseph L. McEveety and produced by Bill Anderson, with Kurt Russell as Dexter, Cesar Romero as Arno, Joe Flynn as Dean Higgins and William Schallert as Professor Quigley among a credited cast of forty-four. It was Butler's first feature, followed much later by Up the Creek and Turbulence, and it runs 91 minutes.
