All the Old Knives is a spy thriller built around a meeting between two former CIA colleagues and lovers. When the agency learns that a leak from within led to the deaths of more than a hundred people, veteran operative Henry Pelham is tasked with identifying the traitor. His inquiry brings him to Celia Harrison, with whom he once worked and was romantically involved, and the two arrange to meet at a restaurant in Carmel, California. Over dinner they revisit their shared past, including the hijacking of a plane that ended in disaster, while each weighs how much the other can be trusted. The film moves between their present conversation, their years together and the events surrounding the failed operation.
Janus Metz directed from a screenplay by Olen Steinhauer, and the film followed Metz's Borg vs McEnroe from 2017. Chris Pine plays Henry and Thandiwe Newton plays Celia, with Jonathan Pryce, Laurence Fishburne, Corey Johnson and Jonjo O'Neill among the supporting cast. The production drew on a credited ensemble of 34 performers and a crew of 45.
Released in April 2022 and running 102 minutes, the film holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 32,000 votes and a 6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of 664. Its critics' rating stands at 6 out of 10 across 122 reviews, close to what general audiences gave it.
