Barbarian Queen

Set in the days of the Roman Empire, Barbarian Queen follows the warrior Amethea, whose village is attacked and whose people are taken into slavery. With a small group of surviving women, she sets out to free them, eventually joining forces with an underground movement in a Roman city to take on those responsible.

The film was directed by Héctor Olivera, a prolific Argentine filmmaker, and was released in 1985 between his features The Vengeances of Beto Sánchez and Night of the Pencils. It was written by Howard R. Cohen, produced by Frank K. Isaac and Alejandro Sessa, and made in Argentina and the United States. Lana Clarkson leads the cast as Amethea, with Katt Shea, Frank Zagarino, Dawn Dunlap, Susana Traverso and Víctor Bó among the credited performers, part of a cast of thirty-one.

The film runs just seventy minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.2 out of 10 from around 3,800 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 4.4 out of 10 from about 100 votes, indicating a modest and largely negative audience response. A film critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from five reviews is close to the audience scores. Low vote counts and ratings suggest the film is known mainly to a limited audience.
