Expend4bles is the fourth entry in the Expendables action series. The mercenary team led by Barney Ross takes on a mission to stop a terrorist arms dealer, but the operation goes badly wrong. One veteran member is grounded and the group is rebuilt around younger recruits with their own methods. When those new operatives are captured, Lee Christmas is left to go after the enemy alone and prevent a global catastrophe.
Scott Waugh directed the film, his fourth feature after Act of Valor, Need for Speed and 6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain. Jason Statham stars as Christmas and also produced the film. The cast includes Dolph Lundgren, 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais, with 41 credited cast members and 127 credited crew. The screenplay was written by Max Adams, Kurt Wimmer and Tad Daggerhart.
Costing around 100 million dollars, the film returned roughly 38 million dollars worldwide, a significant shortfall against its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from about 55,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from a much smaller base of nearly 2,000 votes. A critics' score of 3.5 out of 10 from 124 reviews sits below the audience ratings, indicating a broadly weak reception on both sides, though somewhat less negative among general viewers.
