What's left behind the scenes

  • Angelina Jolie was offered $20 million to direct the film.
  • Brie Larson is allergic to cats, so a doll or computer graphics were used in the scenes with Goose.
  • The film is set in the 1990s and serves as a prelude to the stories of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, Korath the Pursuer, and Ronan the Accuser.
  • In the comics, Captain Marvel's cat is named Chewie, after Chewbacca from "Star Wars" (George Lucas, 1977). Here, she is named Goose after Lieutenant Nick Bradshaw, nicknamed "Goose," from Tony Scott's drama "Top Gun" (1986).
  • To prepare for the role, Brie Larson trained in judo, boxing, and wrestling for 9 months. She also visited Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and spoke with pilots, including Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt and Major Stephen Del Bagno.
  • While playing Talos, Ben Mendelsohn spoke with his native Australian accent and switched to an American pronunciation only when his character was disguised as a human.
  • Writer, actor, and comic book author Stan Lee (1922-2018) appears on screen in two cameo roles. He is shown in the Marvel Studios logo and then again on a train, reading the screenplay for Kevin Smith's "Clerks" (1995), in which he also played a small role.
  • The film is based on the storyline of the war between the Kree and the Skrulls.
  • The uniforms of members of the elite Starforce team combine green and white armor with elements of Captain Marvel's jumpsuit from the 2012 comics.
  • Within the first 24 hours of its release, the film's trailer garnered 109 million views, becoming the 11th most-watched trailer.
  • Carol Danvers enters Pancho's bar, and the audience sees flashbacks depicting her as a test pilot for the Air Force. Pancho's bar was a real establishment located near Edwards Air Force Base in California during the 1940s. It was frequently visited by renowned test pilots such as Chuck Yeager, Robert Anderson, Jack Ridley, James Doolittle, and Buzz Aldrin. The same bar appears in the adventure drama 'The Right Stuff' (Philip Kaufman, 1983), and there are references to it in this film as well.
  • The name Captain Marvel appears in the film only during the end credits.
  • In the comics, Captain Marvel's cat is named Chewie, in honor of Chewbacca from "Star Wars" (George Lucas, 1977). Here, she is named Goose, after Lieutenant Nick Bradshaw, nicknamed "Goose," from Tony Scott's drama "Top Gun" (1986).
  • Writer, actor, and comic book author Stan Lee (1922-2018) appears on screen in two cameo roles. He is shown in the Marvel Studios logo and then again on a train, reading the script for Kevin Smith's comedy "Mallrats" (1995), in which he also played a small role.
