Short description
Carol Danvers is a U.S. Air Force pilot who gains extraordinary powers after an encounter with warring alien races. Set in the 1990s, the story places her at the center of a galactic conflict between the Kree and the Skrulls, and her path brings her into contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury. As she comes to terms with abilities she does not fully understand, she also pieces together the truth about her earlier life on Earth, where she served as a military aviator before her life took a different course. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Annette Bening as the Supreme Intelligence and Dr. Wendy Lawson, and Djimon Hounsou as Korath.
Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Geneva Robertson-Dworet, with Kevin Feige producing for Marvel Studios. It sits fifth in the directing pair's filmography, following Mississippi Grind and preceding Freaky Tales. Made for a budget of 152 million dollars, it became a major commercial success, taking 1.13 billion dollars worldwide.
Audience responses were moderately positive: it holds a 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 655,000 votes, and a 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from about 17,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 out of 10 across 546 reviews places professional assessments closely in line with how viewers received the film.

- The uniforms of members of the elite Starforce team combine green and white armor with elements of Captain Marvel's jumpsuit from the 2012 comics.
- In the comics, Captain Marvel's cat is named Chewie, in honor of Chewbacca from "Star Wars" (George Lucas, 1977). Here, she is named Goose, after Lieutenant Nick Bradshaw, nicknamed "Goose," from Tony Scott's drama "Top Gun" (1986).
- Carol Danvers enters Pancho's bar, and the audience sees flashbacks depicting her as a test pilot for the Air Force. Pancho's bar was a real establishment located near Edwards Air Force Base in California during the 1940s. It was frequently visited by renowned test pilots such as Chuck Yeager, Robert Anderson, Jack Ridley, James Doolittle, and Buzz Aldrin. The same bar appears in the adventure drama 'The Right Stuff' (Philip Kaufman, 1983), and there are references to it in this film as well.
