A mysterious knight in green arrives at King Arthur's court and proposes a contest: a challenger may strike him one blow, on the condition that the knight answers in kind a year later. Gawain, eager to prove himself, accepts and beheads the stranger, only for the Green Knight to retrieve his head and depart. Bound by his promise, Gawain leaves Camelot and travels the land, encountering people and dangers along the way, with the Green Knight's riddle and the coming reckoning never far from his mind.
Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a British-American adventure fantasy directed by Stephen Weeks, who wrote the screenplay with Howard C. Pen and Philip M. Breen. It was produced by Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan for the Cannon Group, and its large credited cast of twenty-six includes Miles O'Keeffe as Gawain, Cyrielle Clair, Leigh Lawson, Trevor Howard, Peter Cushing and Sean Connery as the Green Knight. Weeks had previously directed I, Monster in 1971.
The film was released in August 1984 and runs 102 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.4 from around 2,800 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.2 from a much smaller pool of about 60 votes. Both figures are low, indicating a generally poor reception from viewers rather than any notable acclaim.
