...All the Marbles

Harry Sears is a small-time promoter managing the California Dolls, a two-woman women's wrestling team that travels across the United States in an aging car, performing for modest crowds and little money. Harry is also romantically involved with one of the wrestlers. As the team struggles financially and the bookings grow worse, he agrees to have the women take part in mud wrestling, a decision that complicates their chances of moving up in the sport.

Robert Aldrich directed the film, the seventeenth of the seventeen features he made in chronological order, following The Choirboys (1977). The screenplay is by Mel Frohman, and William Aldrich produced it for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the Aldrich Company. Peter Falk plays Harry Sears, with Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon as the wrestlers Iris and Molly, and Burt Young as Eddie Cisco. The credited cast numbers fifty-four, with forty-five credited crew members. The film runs 113 minutes.

Released in March 1981, the film blends comedy and drama around the grind of life on the road in a marginal sport. Its ratings sit in the middle range: on IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from about 2,700 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 60 votes.
