Short description

Set two years after the events of The Party, this romantic comedy-drama follows fifteen-year-old Vic, who has matured from an awkward teenager into a young woman. While navigating high school and her friends' evolving relationships, Vic meets a young man named Philippe after a passport mix-up during a train journey. As she falls in love, she struggles with the decision of whether to have sex for the first time. Meanwhile, her energetic great-grandmother Poupette and her volatile parents continue to deal with their own personal and professional upheavals.

Directed by Claude Pinoteau, this film is the second project in his career, following The Party and preceding The Student. The screenplay was written by Pinoteau and Danièle Thompson. The movie stars Sophie Marceau as Vic, alongside Claude Brasseur and Brigitte Fossey as her parents, Denise Grey as Poupette, and Pierre Cosso as Philippe. The production involved Gaumont, Gaumont International, and Productions Marcel Dassault, featuring a credited cast of 52 people and a crew of 59.

The film was released in France on December 8, 1982, with a runtime of 109 minutes. It has received generally positive reception from audiences, holding a rating of 6.2/10 based on 5,700 votes on IMDb and a 6.4/10 rating from 665 votes on TMDB.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Future renowned French actress Sandrine Bonnaire made her big screen debut in "La Boum 2" as one of the extras.
  • The film's title song, "Your Eyes" by the British group Cook da Books, also became a hit in France, though not as big as "Reality" from the first film. Over 2.5 million copies were sold in total.
  • Sophie Marceau and Pierre Cosso, like their characters, dated for some time in real life.
  • Over 800 young men auditioned for the role of Philippe, which was ultimately given to Pierre Cosso.
