Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde

Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde is a British horror film from Hammer Film Productions, released in 1971. It follows a Victorian physician, Dr. Jekyll, whose search for a serum against disease and aging leads him to experiment with tissue taken from recently dead women. The formula he creates transforms him into a beautiful woman who passes herself off as his sister, Hyde. As Hyde, she moves through London's streets seeking further female victims so that the research can continue, and with every change she grows stronger while Jekyll weakens, until the new personality threatens to take over for good.

Roy Ward Baker directed the film, which came after The Vampire Lovers and Scars of Dracula in his run of work for Hammer and before Asylum. Brian Clemens wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Albert Fennell. Ralph Bates plays Jekyll, and Martine Beswick plays the woman he becomes; Gerald Sim, Lewis Fiander, Susan Brodrick and Dorothy Alison appear in supporting parts. The story reworks Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, adding a shift of gender rather than only of character.
