Hannie Caulder is a western about a woman whose life is destroyed by three outlaw brothers. The Clemens gang arrives at her ranch, kills her husband, assaults her and burns the place down. Left with nothing, she vows to track the men down. Knowing she cannot do it alone, she turns to a bounty hunter named Thomas Luther Price, who agrees to teach her how to handle a gun and how to hunt fugitives. What follows is her preparation for a confrontation with the three brothers.
The film was directed by Burt Kennedy, who also wrote the screenplay with David Haft, and it was produced by Patrick Curtis. It was Kennedy's sixth feature as director, arriving between Support Your Local Sheriff! and The Train Robbers, in a run of westerns that began with Mail Order Bride. Raquel Welch plays Hannie Caulder, with Robert Culp as Price and Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam and Strother Martin as the Clemens brothers. Christopher Lee appears as Bailey. The British production runs eighty-five minutes.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.4 from about 4,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from 138 votes. The critics' rating stands at 6 out of 10 from five reviews, close to the audience scores.
