What's left behind the scenes

  • Director and screenwriter Angelina Jolie once said: "The film is set in the 1970s. I specifically chose this period because it was a wonderful time. Moreover, in those years, there wasn't much of what people spend a lot of time on today. This allowed me, and will allow the audience, to focus on the emotional aspect of the story."
  • This is the first film to credit "Angelina Jolie Pitt" in the credits.
  • Cinematographer Christian Berger stated that he would primarily shoot using natural lighting or with the "Cine Reflect Lighting System," which he invented with Christian Bartenbach, an Austrian inventor and lighting technology specialist. This system passes natural light through several reflectors, increasing its level while simultaneously creating comfortable shooting conditions. As Berger himself once stated: "It changes the working conditions for the director and actors on set and enhances the effect on screen." Berger had previously used the "Cine Reflect Lighting System" while working on Michael Haneke's "The White Ribbon" (2009). He was nominated for an Academy Award for this work.
  • This is the first live-action film in 10 years to feature Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt together. They last played a married couple in the box office hit "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005).
  • More than ten tattoos that remained on Angelina Jolie’s body were not even attempted to be concealed with makeup during filming. Most of them were simply removed using computer processing and special effects during post-production.
