Short description
Set in France during the 1970s, this drama follows Roland, an American writer, and his wife Vanessa, a former dancer. While traveling through the country, the couple struggles with a failing marriage and emotional distance. Upon arriving in a quiet seaside town, Roland hopes to overcome a creative block, though he spends much of his time drinking at a local cafe. Vanessa remains largely withdrawn until she discovers a hole in their hotel wall, allowing her to observe a newlywed couple in the adjacent room. As they interact with these neighbors and other local residents, the pair attempts to navigate their personal crises.
Angelina Jolie wrote and directed the film, which was her second directorial effort following Unbroken. She also produced the movie alongside Brad Pitt, who co-stars as Roland. The ensemble cast includes Mélanie Laurent, Melvil Poupaud, Niels Arestrup, and Richard Bohringer. Produced by Plan B Entertainment, Jolie Pas, and Pellikola, the film had a budget of 10 million USD but earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office.
