100 Yen Love

Ichiko Saito is 32, unemployed and living with her parents until her divorced sister moves back home with her child and the two women clash. Ichiko moves out, takes a night shift at a shop where everything costs 100 yen, and crosses paths with Yuji Kano, a boxer she notices training at a gym she passes on her way home. Their relationship changes the direction of her life, and she takes up boxing herself and sets her sights on competing professionally.

Masaharu Take directed the film, his first feature before We Make Antiques! in 2018, from a screenplay by Shin Adachi. Sakura Ando plays Ichiko, with Hirofumi Arai as Kano, and Toshie Negishi, Miyoko Inagawa, Saori and Shohei Uno among the supporting cast. It is a Japanese production from Toei Video Company, st'blue and Studio Blue, running 114 minutes and mixing comedy and drama with romance.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 from around 3,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 from a much smaller base of 96 votes. A critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from 10 reviews places it above both audience scores.
