A masked killer stalks a group of art history students in an Italian town, strangling young women and dismembering their bodies. When Jane, an American exchange student, and her friends decide to escape the fear by spending time at an isolated country house, the murderer follows them there, turning what was meant to be a quiet retreat into a trap.
Sergio Martino directed this Italian horror thriller, his second feature in chronological order, following All the Colours of the Dark from the previous year. Ernesto Gastaldi and Martino wrote the screenplay, and Carlo Ponti produced. Suzy Kendall leads the cast as Jane, alongside Tina Aumont, Luc Merenda, John Richardson and Roberto Bisacco. The film runs 93 minutes and was released in January 1973.
Audience responses to the film are moderately positive: it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 9,100 votes, and 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 228 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 out of 10, drawn from 10 reviews, sits close to those audience figures, suggesting broadly comparable assessments across both groups.
