Mitchell

Mitchell is a tough, hard-drinking police detective who plays by his own rules and shows little patience for procedure or his superiors' orders. When a burglar is shot dead in the home of the shady Walter Deaney, Mitchell handles the case and doubts the claim that the killing was self-defense, though he is told to drop it. Instead, he is assigned to keep watch on James Arthur Cummings, a man tied to criminal operations in Mexico. His pursuit of drug traffickers and his effort to expose a larger syndicate bring him into conflict with the people around him and with the department he works for.

The film was directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, the eleventh of the sixteen features he directed in chronological order, arriving between Cahill: United States Marshal and The Wild Geese. Ian Kennedy Martin wrote the screenplay, R. Ben Efraim produced, and Joe Don Baker plays Mitchell. Martin Balsam appears as Cummings, John Saxon as Deaney, and Linda Evans, Morgan Paull and Harold J. Stone are also in the credited cast of thirty-two.

Released in the United States in September 1975, the crime drama runs ninety-seven minutes. It has found little favor with audiences: on IMDb it holds a rating of 2.8 from about 5,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 3.3 from a much smaller number of votes.
