Two Rode Together

Two Rode Together is a 1961 Western set in Texas. Guthrie McCabe, a cynical small-town marshal, is persuaded by the army to travel into Comanche territory and negotiate the return of white captives taken over the preceding years. He is accompanied by Lieutenant Jim Gary. The two men locate the hostages, but bringing them back to their families proves more complicated than the search itself, since years of life among the Comanches have left the captives unable to return to their former lives. John Ford directed; Frank S. Nugent wrote the screenplay, and Stanley Shpetner and Ford produced for Columbia Pictures.

James Stewart plays McCabe and Richard Widmark plays Gary. The supporting cast includes Shirley Jones, Linda Cristal, Andy Devine and John McIntire, among a credited cast of 59. Running 109 minutes, the film was released on May 24, 1961.

It is the twenty-fifth of the thirty-one films Ford directed in chronological order, following Sergeant Rutledge in 1960 and preceding The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance in 1962.
