- The only screenplay written by John Fowles (1926-2005).
- Disappointed with the 1965 film adaptation of his novel 'The Collector' directed by William Wyler, John Fowles insisted on writing the screenplay himself.
- The film is set in Greece, but was mostly shot in Spain.
