What's left behind the scenes
- The film's plot is based on the short stories "Chance," "Soon," and "Silence" by Canadian writer Alice Munro from her collection "Runaway" (2004).
- Initially, the screenplay was written in English, and the main role in the film was intended for Meryl Streep. When Pedro Almodóvar and his brother Agustín were scouting Canada for future filming locations, Almodóvar realized that for a number of reasons, it would be better to film in Spain.
- All the sculptures created by Ava were carved by Miguel Navarro, a renowned Spanish sculptor.
- Initially, the film was titled "Silence," but the director decided to change it to avoid confusion with Martin Scorsese's "Silence," which was also slated for release in 2016.
