Short description

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature continues the story of Surly, a squirrel who, along with his animal companions, finds his home under threat. After their supply of food is lost, Surly and his friends are forced back into the city park, only to learn that the mayor of Oakton intends to tear the green space down and replace it with an amusement park. To stop the construction and keep their home, the animals band together and work against the mayor's plans.

Cal Brunker directed the film, his second feature after Escape from Planet Earth in 2013 and the second of five titles he has directed in a row, ahead of several PAW Patrol films. The screenplay was written by Scott Bindley, Brunker and Bob Barlen, and the voice cast includes Will Arnett as Surly, Maya Rudolph as Precious, Bobby Cannavale as Frankie, Bobby Moynihan as Mayor Muldoon, Isabela Merced as Heather and Peter Stormare as Gunther, with 29 credited cast members and 46 credited crew.

Released in August 2017, the animated adventure comedy runs 91 minutes and was produced by companies in Canada, the United States and Korea. Made for a budget of 40 million USD, it took 69 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 8,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 out of 10 from 484 votes, and a critics' rating of 4 out of 10 from 60 reviews places it below the audience scores.
