What's left behind the scenes
- Steve Carell replaced Bruce Willis after filming had already begun. Initially, Willis's departure was reported as due to commitments to another project, but it later emerged that he was fired because Woody Allen and the entire crew could no longer tolerate his behavior and inability to remember his lines. This is Carell's second collaboration with Allen, having previously appeared in the director's Melinda and Melinda (2004).
- This is Woody Allen's first film shot in digital format using the Sony Cinealta F65.
- This is the third time Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg have worked together. They previously starred in Adventureland (2009) and American Ultra (2015).
