Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge continues the story of the Cromwell family, who live in the ordinary world while grandmother Aggie resides in Halloweentown, a refuge for monsters. A new threat emerges when Cal, the son of the family's old enemy Kalabar, sets out to avenge his father. Using Aggie's spell book, he plans to drain the color and magic from Halloweentown and make it resemble the human world, while turning ordinary people into monsters. Marnie, a young witch, is the one who can stand against him. The film follows her efforts to protect both worlds and the people in them.
Mary Lambert directed the television movie, which came after Clubland in her filmography and before Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. The screenplay is by Ali Marie Matheson and Jon Cooksey, with Peter Lhotka producing for Just Singer Entertainment and Disney Channel. Kimberly J. Brown plays Marnie, Judith Hoag plays Gwen Piper, and Daniel Kountz plays Cal. They are joined by Joey Zimmerman, Emily Roeske and Phillip Van Dyke. The film runs 81 minutes and blends adventure, comedy, family and fantasy elements.
It holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb from more than ten thousand votes, and a rating of 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from a few hundred votes. Both suggest a generally positive response from viewers who seek out this kind of family fantasy.
