The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter

The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter continues the adventures of Bastian Bux, a boy who struggles with his confidence in everyday life and finds refuge in a magical book. Reading once more, Bastian is drawn into Fantasia, the realm of human stories and dreams, where he reunites with his friend Atreyu. The land is threatened by a void that is consuming it, and a sorceress, Xayide, works to turn Bastian from his purpose, so that he forgets why he came and cannot stop the emptiness spreading through the realm.

The film is a German and American co-production directed by George T. Miller, following The Man from Snowy River and The Aviator in his filmography, from a screenplay by Karin Howard and produced by Dieter Geissler. Jonathan Brandis plays Bastian, with Kenny Morrison as Atreyu, Clarissa Burt as Xayide and Alexandra Johnes as the Childlike Empress, among 36 credited cast members.

It was released in 1990 and runs 90 minutes. Made for 32 million US dollars, it returned about half that amount at the worldwide box office, a poor result for a production of its scale. Audiences on IMDb rate it 7.2 out of 10 from 183 votes, while on TMDB it holds 5.8 out of 10 from 911 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 out of 10 from 7 reviews places it below both audience scores.
