What's left behind the scenes

  • Christopher Lee agreed to star in this film for the opportunity to appear in the same movie as Donald Pleasence. However, due to the difference in their heights and the resulting difficulties in positioning these characters in the same frame, the two actors did not appear together in joint scenes (Lee was 196 cm tall, Pleasence – 170 cm).
  • The scenes in the pub were pure improvisation. Donald Pleasence and Norman Rossington became noticeably intoxicated during the filming of these scenes.
  • The role played by Hugh Armstrong was originally intended for Marlon Brando, but at the last moment he declined the role due to his son's illness.
  • The film takes place on an unfinished station of the London Underground called “Museum,” located somewhere near the “Russell Square” and “British Museum” Underground stations (the latter was closed in 1933).
