Munster, Go Home!

Herman Munster learns he has inherited a title and an English estate called Munster Hall, so the whole family sails to Britain to see their new home. The reception is cold: Lady Effigy and Freddie Munster, who expected the title himself, make no secret of their resentment, and the British relatives scheme to get rid of the American newcomers. Marilyn, meanwhile, has struck up a romance with Roger on the crossing, only to find that his family has a long-standing grudge against the Munsters.

The film is based on the 1960s television series about a family of friendly monsters, and it was the show's first theatrical feature. Earl Bellamy directed it, the first of three features in his directing career chronologically, from a screenplay by Joe Connelly, Bob Mosher and George Tibbles, who also produced. Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, Al Lewis, Butch Patrick and Debbie Watson play the family, with Terry-Thomas as Freddie; 32 cast members are credited.

Universal Pictures released the film in June 1966, and it runs 96 minutes, mixing comedy and family fantasy with adventure and horror elements. On IMDb it holds a 6.4 rating from around 3,400 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.4, from 75 votes. The two sets of viewers land in the same place, describing a film watched mainly by those who already knew the characters from television.
