The Lorax

A boy visits the barren wasteland where a forest once stood and meets the Once-ler, a ruined industrialist who agrees to tell him what happened. The Once-ler recounts how he built a thriving business on a fashionable product made from the forest's trees, ignoring the warnings of the Lorax, an old and wise creature who spoke for the trees and the animals that depended on them. The film is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss's book, and he wrote the screenplay himself.

The 1972 television short runs about twenty-five minutes and was directed by Hawley Pratt, whose directing work on record begins with Pink Pajamas in 1964 and continues through Pinkfinger in 1965 to this film. It was produced by David H. DePatie, Dr. Seuss and Friz Freleng, with animation by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises and broadcast by CBS. Eddie Albert narrates, Bob Holt voices both the Lorax and the Once-ler, and Athena Lorde, Harlen Carraher, Scatman Crothers and Vivian Vance are also in the voice cast.
